The walking man with a completely occluded aorta.

چکیده
Complete aortic occlusion is rare and potentially detrimental. It usually occurs in patients with advanced aorto-iliac atherosclerosis, and can cause severe ischaemic manifestations in the lower extremities, spinal cord, intestine or kidneys [1]. However, the diagnosis may evade detection since collateral vasculature can maintain a basal perfusion and prevent the expression of acute ischaemic phenomena for a long time. We describe a 69-year-old man with chronic severe aorto-iliac atherosclerotic occlusive disease, who was referred to us late, only after complete suprarenal aortic occlusion had caused acute anuria. This delay limited therapeutic options and aggravated his prognosis.

متن کاملThe surgical relief of aortic stenosis by means of apical-aortic valvular anastomosis.
A means has been devised whereby the aortic valve can be effectively by-passeJ. Left ventricular blood leaves via the apex through a lucite tube in continuity with a modified Hufnagel valve and then enters the thoracic aorta. In dogs so treated the ascending arch of the aorta may be totally and permanently occluded without apparent impairment of the circulation. Postoperatively these dogs run, ...

متن کاملPatency of perforating arteries after stent placement? A study using an in vivo experimental atherosclerosis-induced model.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The recent advent of flexible stents has enabled their application in intracranial atherosclerotic disease. However, it is unclear whether perforating artery occlusion occurs after stent placement in atherosclerotic stenotic vessels. We investigated this issue by using experimental atherosclerosis-induced rabbits. METHODS A stainless steel balloon-expandable stent was d...
